Friends of Brampton Museum Talk

“The Public Face of Dracula” Dracula’s image on film throughout the 20th century

Wednesday 31 October at 2.30pm

A talk by Glenn James

As the entertainment media developed across the 20th century, the age of celebrity rose, giving us stars like Humphrey Bogart and Marilyn Monroe. But it also gave a whole new lease of life to fictional characters, and liberated them from the printed word, launching them onto our screens in a thousand alternate depictions.

But one of the main fictional characters to become world famous, and instantly recognisable, has no reflection.

Not only that, but he traditionally sleeps in an ancient coffin, and has been dead for 500 years!  I speak of none other than Count Dracula, Prince of the Order of the Dragon and Transylvanian nobleman.

How then has this faceless ghost become such an instantly recognisable celebrity?

The great vampire overlord has found his medium in film, and we owe it to movies that we have an enduring, instant image of him.

Tickets are £5
